BASIC POLICY
AFA values its members’ right to privacy and their right to limit the use of their names as they see fit.
Beyond information required for delivery of AIR FORCE Magazine and to accomplish basic membership functions
such as renewal and address confirmation, AFA uses mailing or member lists in a number of ways described below.
In each case the member may elect to stop such use by contacting Member Services as described below.
AFA Solicitations
From time to time AFA mails information about AFA-sponsored programs to eligible members. Sponsored programs
include insurance, credit card, product discounts, etc.
List Rentals
AFA never sells mailing lists of member names and addresses. However, if an organization has a product or
service that may be of interest to AFA members, they may request a one-time mailing to AFA members. The
specific mailing piece must have prior approval of a committee of AFA department directors and permission is
granted infrequently.
Fundraising
The Air Force Association is a 501(C)(3) organization with a clear mission to promote aerospace power
through education, advocacy and support of Air Force people. We could not continue this important
work without the tax deductible contributions received (separate from membership dues). Fundraising
efforts are directed to AFA members throughout the year. If you prefer to not receive these
mailings, simply let us know by writing membership@afa.org or
calling 1-800-727-3337..
AFA Online Directory
A membership directory appears in the protected Members Only area of its website and is only accessible to other
AFA members, not to the general public. The information is intended to be used for AFA members to network and
to locate old friends and colleagues and can NOT be used to create mailing lists. Violators of this policy will
be banned from the Members Only area indefinitely. Members control how much of their information is made available.
They may "hide" their entire listing or choose whichever fields they would like to hide or show.
AFA Chapter Rosters
Most AFA members are affiliated with local chapters who have access to information on their members to enable
them to stay in touch at the local level.
Broadcast E-Mail
AFA sends an e-mail newsletter periodically to members (and others). Any member can opt out of these e-mails by clicking
the appropriate link in the e-mail or contacting AFA Member Services. AFA receives statistics showing us how many people
opened the e-mail and what stories they clicked to read. This helps us keep the newsletter in tune with member interests.
If you want to be excluded from any or all of these mailings, lists, or the directory listing, you may do
so by e-mail to AFA’s Member Services office at membership@afa.org or by
calling 1-800-727-3337. Be sure to include your complete name and address.
