This Week In Airpower History
| Saturday, May 12, 1928 -- Lt. Julian S. Dexter of the Army Air Corps Reserve completes a 3,000-square-mile aerial mapping assignment over the Florida Everglades. The project takes 65 hours of flying, spread over two months.
| | Tuesday, May 13, 1913 -- The first flight of the world's first four-engine airplane, The Russian Knight, affectionately called "Le Grand," takes place in Russia. The aircraft is designed by Igor I. Sikorsky.
| | Thursday, May 14, 1908 -- The first passenger flight takes place in the Wright airplane at Kitty Hawk in preparation for delivery of a government airplane. Wilbur Wright pilots the machine, with Charles Furnas, an employee, as the first passenger.
| | Thursday, May 15, 1930 -- Ellen Church, a registered nurse, becomes the world's first airline stewardess as she serves sandwiches on a Boeing Air Transport flight between San Francisco and Cheyenne, Wyo.
