L. Boyd Anderson became the Vice Chairman of the Board, Aerospace Education, Air Force Association on October 1, 2006. As such, he is a member of AFA’s Executive Committee and chairs the Aerospace Education Council.
Boyd is a Life Member and has been active in AFA since 1967. He previously served as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, AFA, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Aerospace Education Foundation, President of the AEF, and an AEF Trustee. Boyd was the President of AFA’s Rocky Mountain Region and is a past President of the Utah State AFA and former Chairman of the Utah AEF.
During his tenure as Chairman of the AEF he was instrumental in the review and restructuring of the Foundation and its programs and the reorgani¬zation of the AFA and AEF through the afa21 transformation process. He continues his efforts to enhance the AFA’s education programs and its support to the field organizations. Partnerships with Civil Air Patrol, Air Force ROTC, USA Today Visions’ Program, industry and the Air Force continue to be focused on the AFA’s educational objectives.
Among his several AFA awards, he has received the Medal of Merit, Exceptional Service Award, and Presidential Citation as well as being named the Utah AFA Man of the Year in 1997.
He served in the Department of Defense for 33 years, retiring in January 1995 from the Air Force Reserve as a Brigadier General, where he was serving as Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill AFB, UT. He also retired in March of 1994 from Civil Service at Ogden where he served as the Chief of the Manpower and Organization office.
Boyd, a 1962 distinguished graduate of the Air Force ROTC program at the George Washington University, entered active duty in the Air Force Systems Command at LG Hanscom Field, MA. In 1965 he transferred to the Air Force Reserve, serving in the 945th Military Airlift Group, 508th Tactical Fighter Group and 419th Tactical Fighter Wing. He has held positions as Combat Support Squadron Commander and Wing Deputy Commander of Resources.
A decorated officer, his many awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal and he was recognized as the Outstanding Field Grade Officer, Tenth Air Force. Mr. Anderson is also a recipient of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service.
In addition to his AFA activities, Boyd is Chairman Emeritus of the Utah Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a member of the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce and its Military Affairs Committee, life member of the Reserve Officer’s Association and Past State President of the ROA’s Utah Department, a member of the Military Officers Association of America and member of the Utah Defense Alliance Board of Directors.
He currently resides in Ogden, Utah where he is active in a several community and charitable organizations. He has four children, Deborah, Julie, Jeff and Kevin.
