ROTC Scholarship


This scholarship program was created by the Air Force Association in partnership with the First Command Educational Foundation to provide two (2) scholarships in the amount of $5000 each to highly qualified AFROTC cadets, coming into their junior or senior year in the fall of 2009 and committed to course of study in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM).

Conditions of Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a dependent child, stepchild or in loco parentis student of an active duty, reserve, or guard Airman (enlisted or officer) that can be verified through an applicable government human resources program.

  • Applicants must be a current Air Force ROTC cadet in good standing, enrolled full time as an incoming junior or senior for the 2009-2010 academic year.

  • The applicant must currently be enrolled in the Professional Air Force ROTC Officer Course program and

  • Attend both the Aerospace Studies class and Leadership Lab each semester.

  • Forward an endorsement and most recent performance evaluation from the detachment commander.

  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate work.

  • Rank in top 10% of graduating class.

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.

  • Applicants must be enrolled in full-time study in areas of science, technology, engineering or mathematics

  • Complete three essays of at least 500 words.

    • This year we inaugurated a new President. If you had the opportunity to speak with the President, what one issue affecting the military would you bring to his attention

Scholarship funds will be sent to the financial aid off of the recipient’s college or university. Funds can be used for books, tuition, supplies and for room and board, housing.

Additional Requirements:

  • Individual must be available to receive the award at the AFA conference held September 14-16th, 2009 at the Gaylord National Hotel in Washington, DC.

  • Recipient must provide a digital photo to the Air Force Association of his/herself in Air Force ROTC uniform to be used for press releases by the Air Force Association, ROTC, and the donor as appropriate

  • Thank you note must be provided by the scholarship recipient to the Air Force Association stating what the receipt of the scholarship means to the individual. The note will be given to the donors.
