NORMAN Y. MINETA

Norman Mineta As Secretary of Transportation, Mineta oversees an agency with 100,000 employees and a $58.7 billion budget. Created in 1967, the U.S. Department of Transportation brought air, maritime, and surface transportation missions under one umbrella. Prior to joining President Bush's administration as Secretary of Transportation, Mineta served as U.S. Secretary of Commerce under President Clinton, becoming the first Asian Pacific American to serve in the cabinet. He is the first Secretary of Transportation to have previously served in a cabinet position. Prior to joining the Commerce Department, he was a vice president at Lockheed Martin Corporation.


DR. JAMES G. ROCHE

Dr. James G. Roche is the 20th Secretary of the Air Force. In this role, he is responsible for the affairs of the Department of the Air Force, including the organizing, training, equipping, and providing for the welfare of its nearly 370,000 men and women on active duty, 180,000 members of the Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve, 160,000 civilians, and their families. As head of the Department of the Air Force, Secretary Roche is responsible for its functioning and efficiency, the formulation of its policies and programs, and the timely implementation of decisions and instructions of the President of the United States and the Secretary of Defense. With an annual budget of approximately $90 billion, he ensures the Air Force can meet its current and future operational requirements.


GENERAL PETER PACE

Gen Pace General Peter Pace is the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In this capacity, he is a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Nation's second highest ranking military officer. General Pace is the sixth officer to hold the position and the first Marine. As the Vice Chairman, General Pace serves as the Chairman of the Joint Requirements Oversight Council, Vice Chairman of the Defense Acquisition Board, and as a member of the National Security Council Deputies Committee and the Nuclear Weapons Council. In addition, he acts for the Chairman in all aspects of the Planning, Programming and Budgeting System to include participating in meetings of the Defense Resources Board.


GENERAL JOHN P. JUMPER

Gen. John P. Jumper is Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. As Chief, he serves as the senior uniformed Air Force officer responsible for the organization, training and equipage of 710,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian forces serving in the United States and overseas. As a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the general and other service chiefs function as military advisers to the Secretary of Defense, National Security Council and the President.


GENERAL GREGORY S. MARTIN

Gen. Gregory S. Martin is Commander, Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Prior to this assignment, he served as Commander, U.S. Air Forces in Europe; Commander, Allied Air Forces Northern Europe; and Air Force Component Commander, U.S. European Command, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. He has also served as the Principal Deputy with the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, the Joint Staff's J-8 Vice Director, the Air Force's Director of Operational Requirements and commanded the 67th Tactical Fighter Squadron, the 479th Tactical Training Wing, and the 33rd and 1st fighter wings.


GENERAL HAL M. HORNBURG

Gen. Hal M. Hornburg is Commander, Air Combat Command, with headquarters at Langley Air Force Base, Va., and Air Component Commander for U.S. Joint Forces Command and U.S. Northern Command. General Hornburg is responsible for organizing, training, equipping and maintaining combat-ready forces for rapid deployment and employment while ensuring strategic air defense forces are ready to meet the challenges of peacetime air sovereignty and wartime defense. ACC operates more than 1,200 aircraft, 25 wings, 16 bases and more than 200 operating locations worldwide with 110,000 active-duty and civilian personnel.


GENERAL T. MICHAEL MOSELEY

Gen. T. Michael Moseley is the Vice Chief of Staff, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. Prior to his assignment as Vice Chief of Staff, Moseley was Commander, 9th Air Force and U.S. Central Command Air Forces, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. General Moseley's staff assignments have been a mix of operational, joint and personnel duties. These include serving as Director for Legislative Liaison for the Secretary of the Air Force; Deputy Director for Politico-Military Affairs for Asia/Pacific and Middle East, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C.; Chief of the Air Force General Officer Matters Office, Washington, D.C.; Chief of Staff of the Air Force Chair and Professor of Joint and Combined Warfare at the National War College, Washington, D.C.; and Chief of the Tactical Fighter Branch, Tactical Forces Division, Directorate of Plans, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.


CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT
OF THE AIR FORCE
GERALD R. MURRAY

Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Gerald R. Murray represents the highest enlisted level of leadership, and as such, provides direction for the enlisted corps and represents their interests, as appropriate, to the American public, and to those in all levels of government. He serves as the personal adviser to the Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Air Force on all issues regarding the welfare, readiness, morale, and proper utilization and progress of the enlisted force. Chief Murray is the 14th chief master sergeant appointed to the highest noncommissioned officer position.


REBECCA GRANT

Rebecca Grant is president of IRIS Independent Research, which she founded in 1995.  Her professional research interests center on joint doctrine and air power employment in joint campaigns.   Recent IRIS Independent Research projects include a study of the F-22, analysis of Operation Allied Force and a report on innovation processes in the Department of Defense.  She is the author of The B-2 Goes to War (2001) and The Radar Game (1999) as well as several magazine articles on aspects of aerospace power.  Dr. Grant is also a fellow of the Eaker Institute of Aerospace Concepts, the public policy and research arm of the Air Force Association.
