- The Air National Guard
- The Air National Guard makes up more than a quarter of the strength of the US Air Force. In the tradition of a civilian militia, Guard members are first citizens of their local community with regular jobs, and secondly military personnel.
- Suicide Prevention
- The number of suicides among U.S. service members has increased steadily since the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan began. Close to two million of our Nation’s warriors have deployed in the past ten years to serve in these conflicts.
- SBP/DIC Offset
- Fifty-four thousand of our military’s surviving spouses are not getting the just compensation their loved ones intended to provide for them should they lose their lives in service to their nation.
- Homeless Veterans
- Most Americans know that our military veterans have long comprised a large portion of our nation’s homeless population, but they may not realize how large of a portion. Although it is difficult to get an accurate count, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) estimates 107,000 veterans are homeless on any given night.
- Concurrent Receipt
- When service members retire from Active Duty, they are medically evaluated by the Veterans Administration (VA) to determine their respective conditions. VA doctors have a schedule to rate maladies and conditions and decide the percentage a member may be disabled as a result of military service. If this exam reveals disability, the service member is entitled to disability compensation.
- U.S. Air Force Space Operations
- The benefits derived from the use of space are generally underappreciated. In both the civilian and military sectors, the daily operations and delivery of 21st century services cannot occur without the use of space and space assets.
- The Next Generation Bomber
- Global reach, global power—the ability to yield strategic effects by striking targets anywhere in the world at anytime—is the core mission of the US Air Force’s long range strike fleet
- Recapitalizing the Air Force Fleet
- Modernizing the legacy fleet and acquiring new aircraft is an essential element of maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the US Air Force. The fleet currently averages nearly a quarter of a century in age and this figure is currently projected to increase. This is not a sustainable trend and must be reversed through substantial investment in recapitalization accounts.
- Air Force Aerial Refueling
- The US Air Force’s preeminent position among the world’s air arms is exemplified in many areas. One of the most critical is the ability to project and sustain assets around the globe through aerial refueling. However, substantial elements of the tanker fleet are nearly a half century old and require rapid replacement through the KC-X initiative.
- Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance
- The ability to find, fix, and track targets and items of interest is one of the most critical capabilities that the Air Force provides to the joint team. Current operations in Afghanistan and Iraq have seen dramatic increases in the quality, sustainability, and volume of these capabilities. This trend needs to continue to ensure that the Air Force and the joint team will be able to engage successfully in the future.
