RE: NASM Crossroads" Exhibit Review and Recommendations

At your request, I served as Chairman of a six-member "Tiger Team" which conducted a comprehensive review of the proposed NASM exhibit entitled "The Crossroads: The End of World War II, the Atomic Bomb and the Origins of the Cold War."

Enclosed is a written Report summarizing the Team's findings and recommendations.

You have requested the Team Secretary, Dr. Steven Soter, to represent the Team in discussing our recommendations with Thomas Crouch, Chairman of the NASM Aeronautics Department, and with Michael Neufeld, the lead Curator for the exhibit. You have indicated that any items or areas which remain unresolved following these discussions will be presented to you for adjudication.

I and the other Team members remain at your disposal for consultation concerning our review and recommendations.

The "Tiger Team" recognizes the controversial nature of the "Crossroads" exhibit. We also recognize the difficulties in conducting a critical review without appearing to convey criticism. We hope that our efforts will contribute to a balanced, objective and informative retrospective of some of the most important events of this century.
