Air Force Association Presents Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Awards

Arlington, VA, October 2, 2002 - The Air Force Association and its affiliate, the Aerospace Education Foundation, presented eight awards recently in recognition of traditional Air National Guardsmen, Air Force Reservists and their employers during the opening ceremony at the AFA National Convention in Washington, D.C. The convention focused on how the Air Force is responding to the global war on terrorism.

The first category of Guard awards was presented to an officer and an enlisted member of the Air National Guard who served in the Aerospace Expeditionary Force and to their employers. The recipients were Capt. Jeffrey K. Wilkinson, a pararescue team leader from the Kentucky ANG and his employer, Don Dugan, Distribution Manager for General Electric Appliance in Louisville. MSgt Anthony L. Bradley, a disaster preparedness specialist from the Wyoming ANG and his employer, Darrell Williams, member of Intrado Inc, Board of Directors, were also recognized. Intrado is a telecommunications company in Boulder, Colo.

The Air National Guard awards were given in the name of the President and Commander in Chief, George W. Bush. Award recipients received an AFA certificate and a $500 award, made possible through the contribution of AEF trustee, William W. Spruance.

The second category of Reserve awards included Lt Col David Lint, outstanding reserve officer from the 93rd Fighter Squadron, Homestead ARB, Fla., and his employer, Mark Rubin, an American Airlines chief pilot from Miami. TSgt Rusty Harvey, the outstanding reserve enlisted member from the 303rd Fighter Squadron, Whiteman AFB, Mo., and his employer Edwin Rice, chairman and CEO of The Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr. Pepper Bottling Company, Mo.

Each Reserve award recipient received a Citizen-Airman Certificate and a $500 check from the AEF in appreciation for their service to the nation. Additionally, the Air Force Reserve gave each employer an Eagle statute.

Approximately 800 people attended the awards ceremony. Gen Gregory S. Martin, Commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe, presented the keynote address. The patriotic event included a commemorative 9/11 film and videotape acceptance from NBC Nightly News Anchor Tom Brokaw, the recipient of the AFA Gill Robb Wilson Award for outstanding contributions in the field of arts and letters.
