Arlington, VA, December 6, 2005 – The Air Force Association (AFA) has sent a
letter to President George W. Bush and leading Members of Congress encouraging
them to maintain the U.S. commitment in Iraq and keep their focus on winning the Global War on Terrorism.
“There is no denying that Iraq is now a central front in the Global War on Terrorism,”
said AFA Chairman of the Board Stephen P. “Pat” Condon. “AFA believes that military operations in Iraq and
Afghanistan are making real progress in bringing democracy to the Middle East. Ultimate victory in these theaters
will not be without sacrifice, but to withdraw prematurely from the region would only embolden the terrorists who have
sworn to destroy us.”
The letter, dated December 5, also reiterates AFA’s support for the men and women of the
United States Air Force and all members of the Armed Forces who collectively are performing above and beyond the call
of duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.
