Arlington, VA, July 1, 2005 – The Air Force Association (AFA) welcomes General
T. Michael Moseley as the 20th Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force. General Moseley was confirmed
by the U.S. Senate on July 1, 2005, by unanimous consent.
Over the years, AFA has enjoyed a productive working relationship with General
Moseley. AFA’s Government Relations department worked closely with the general on Capitol Hill when he served
as Director, Legislative Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, from 1999 to 2001. Later, during
his tenure as Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Moseley was a frequent guest speaker at AFA symposia and
conferences, and a strong supporter of AFA’s efforts to promote public understanding of aerospace power and
improve quality of life for Air Force people.
The Association believes that General Moseley’s extensive experience with command
assignments will serve him well in his new position. He commanded the Air Force’s largest, most diverse flying
wing, the 57th Wing, at Nellis AFB. He also served as the combat Director of Operations for Joint Task
Force-Southwest Asia. During operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, he served as Combined
Forces Air Component Commander and commanded both the 9th Air Force and U.S. Central Command Air Forces. His
experience in working with foreign governments and leaders is also significant—he is a member of the Council of
Foreign Relations and has been decorated by the presidents of the French Republic and the United Arab Emirates.
AFA Chairman of the Board Stephen P. (Pat) Condon believes that President George W.
Bush has picked the right man for the job. “Having directed air campaigns from the Combined Air Operations Center
in both Iraq and Afghanistan, General Moseley is intimately familiar with the concepts and capabilities that our
21 century Air Force employs, as well as the challenges facing our Airmen as we fight a global war on terror,”
Condon said. “The Air Force Association congratulates him on his confirmation and we look forward to continuing
to work with him during his tenure as USAF Chief of Staff.”
