Air Force Association Resolution on Terrorism
[On behalf of the Air Force Association, the Board of Directors
approved the following resolution on terrorism at their meeting in
Washington, D.C., on December 8, 2001.]
In the
aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the
United States, which resulted in the death of thousands of
American citizens, we [the Air Force Association] resolve that
the perpetrators of this unconscionable act be held accountable
to the fullest extent possible. Further, AFA stands with
the nation's elected leaders and with our armed forces in the
determination that we not rest until the networks
responsible for terrorism are destroyed.
Presently, the military instrument of national power is
being brought to bear against the Taliban and al Qaeda
network operating in Afghanistan. AFA salutes the
contributions of our Air Force men and women in our
nation’s response. Under the persistent attack of
American airpower we are on the road to success in this
phase of the war. Military operations have been
effective and lethal. We strongly endorse other
measures in this must-win war such as law enforcement,
the dismantling of financial institutions supporting
terrorists and tighter security for the homeland.
Day-by-day we must grind down the enemy to eventual
extermination however long that takes.
September 11, 2001, will be forever engraved in our
memory. We must never forget the horrible sight of the
World Trade Center and the Pentagon attacked by hijacked
airplanes or the bravery of countless Americans such as
the passengers aboard Flight 93, which crashed in
Pennsylvania. We must continue to fight those who seek
our demise. Seldom in our history has the threat been
so ominous—the security of the nation is at risk.
International terrorism has crossed the oceans and
killed innocent Americans on U.S. soil.
In
the war we are fighting, we make no distinction between
those who commit terrorist attacks and those who harbor
the terrorists. The Air Force Association fully
supports the courage, sacrifice and professionalism of
all our service men and women—airmen, soldiers, sailors,
Marines and Coast Guardsmen serving in defense of the
nation.
