AFA Awards the 2008 Capt. Jodi Callahan Memorial Graduate Scholarship to Intelligence Officer

Arlington, VA – The Air Force Association (AFA) today announced the selection of Air Force Captain Christopher E. Diehl for the 2008 Captain Jodi Callahan Memorial Graduate Scholarship.

Captain Diehl is an active duty intelligence officer, analyzing and delivering intelligence briefings on events and trends at both the tactical and strategic levels. He was twice deployed in support of missions and helped ensure the safety of more than 1,000 Air Mobility Command flights without a loss.

AFA awards the $1,000 Callahan Memorial Scholarship annually to deserving Air Force active duty, full time Guard or Reserve pursuing a non-technical Master’s Degree. Captain Diehl is pursuing a Master of Arts in Political Science at Villanova University.

Captain Jodi Callahan was an AFA National Director and a Trustee of the Aerospace Education Foundation. She was a life member of AFA. This scholarship is possible because of the generous donations of her family and friends through the Jodi Callahan Memorial Fund.

“Captain Diehl is doing some great work in the Air Force, and we are happy to present the Callahan Memorial Scholarship to him,” said S. Sanford Schlitt, Vice Chairman of the Board for Aerospace Education.

"Jodi Callahan was, at the time of her death, pursuing her second master's degree at George Washington University. Her Masters of Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University and the program at George Washington were both off duty education supported in part by the Air Force. Captain Diehl's effort to pursue a master's degree in Political Science is most noteworthy and in keeping with the intent and desires of the Captain Jodi Callahan Memorial Scholarship. We offer our congratulations to Captain Diehl as the recipient of this year's award," said the Callahan Family.

“We’re very pleased to both honor the memory of Captain Jodi Callahan and contribute to the educational goals of an accomplished Air Force officer,” said Mike Dunn, President of AFA.
