AFA Awards Summer 2008 Aerospace Education Grants to Civil Air Patrol Units

July 24, 2008 -- ARLINGTON, Va – The Air Force Association today announced twenty grants promoting aerospace education to hundreds of youth throughout the Civil Air Patrol squadrons.

The AFA grants, each $250, are awarded to the squadrons for use in any Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) activity or materials that promote aerospace education.

“These AFA grants reach more young people with a learning opportunity centered on aerospace development,” said S. Sanford Schlitt, Vice Chairman of the Board, Aerospace Education. “By focusing on the entire squadron, we help numbers of youth experience something memorable about airpower.”

“We are investing in the next generation of aerospace leaders,” said Mike Dunn, President/CEO of AFA. “Promoting aerospace education is a rewarding aspect of our mission at AFA.”

Uses of the grants can include purchasing textbooks or materials, or activities such as field trips to aerospace museums.
