Arlington, VA, April 3, 2006 – On April 1, 2006, the activities of the Air Force Association (AFA) and its affiliate, the Aerospace Education Foundation (AEF), were combined into a single organization under the name ‘Air Force Association.’ This consolidation was the result of actions taken by delegates at AFA’s National Convention in September of 2005 and by the joint boards of the two organizations on February 4, 2006.

The consolidation had been considered for several years and is taken pursuant to the “afa21 Roadmap” which was outlined in the November 2005 issue of AIR FORCE Magazine (http://www.afa.org/magazine/nov2005/1105afa21.asp). The objective of the merger is to restructure the organization’s tax status to become more inclusive, efficient and effective.

As a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, AFA will now be able to accept charitable gifts and enhance its fundraising potential. The Association’s insurance business and the national headquarters building will be retained as a not-for-profit 501(c)(19) veterans organization with the name, "AFA Veteran Benefits Association."

By taking these steps, the Air Force Association will be able to expand its outreach and improve its effectiveness by consolidating education programs within one organization. AFA’s mission to educate the public about the critical role of aerospace power in the defense of our nation, advocate aerospace power and a strong national defense, and support the United States Air Force and the Air Force family will be greatly enhanced.

“Our United States Air Force is rapidly adapting to the national security needs of our nation and, as we celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Air Force Association, our organization stands ready to support them by doing the same,“ said AFA Chairman of the Board Stephen P. Condon. “The consolidation of the Air Force Association and the Aerospace Education Foundation is an opportunity to blend two organizations into one with an incredible amount of value added to our programs, members and prospective members.”
