AFA Announces Spring 2008 Pitsenbarger Award Recipients

Arlington, VA – The Air Force Association today announced a total of $107,000 in funds awarded to the 2008 Spring Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) graduates for AFA’s Pitsenbarger Awards. The 214 recipients each received a $500 check and a certificate of achievement. AFA’s Pitsenbarger awards will also be distributed to qualified Airmen CCAF graduates at the Fall graduation ceremonies.

The award is named for William H. Pitsenbarger, an Airman First Class who gave his life in Vietnam saving others and was awarded the Air Force Cross for his heroism.

The program, created and administered by the Air Force Association, provides a one-time grant to selected top Air Force enlisted personnel graduating from the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) who are pursuing a baccalaureate degree. The award is based on distinguished activity encompassing leadership, teamwork, citizenship, community service, dedication, personal development and academic achievement, along with a Commander’s endorsement.

“The Air Force Association is very pleased to help enlisted Airmen pursue their educational goals,” said S. Sanford Schlitt, AFA Vice Chairman of the Board, Aerospace Education.

“AFA is proud to support these fine Airmen, and the academic efforts they are making in addition to their service,” said Mike Dunn, President of AFA.
