AFA Highlights USAF Milestone: 100,000 Air Sorties This Year
Arlington, VA – The Air Force Association (AFA) today highlighted the Air Force milestone of 100,000 air sorties so far this year as part of joint operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Just released by the Air Force, the 100,000-sortie mark was reached on November 3, 2009, and continues at a pace of several hundred sorties per day. Sorties include aerial refueling, transport, medical, reconnaissance and air strikes on insurgent targets.
“It’s a real privilege for AFA to support the fine men and women of the Air Force,” said Joe Sutter, Chairman of the Board for AFA. “This marker is just one snapshot that reminds us of the scope of the effort by the Air Force and our entire military. We’re proud of them, and our thoughts are with all who serve.”
“This is a remarkable pace of sustained activity,” said Mike Dunn, President of AFA. “It is a tremendous achievement in logistics, and indicates how airpower contributes immeasurably to the success of the operations of our Armed Forces. This marker is an impressive indicator of the tremendous dedication of our nation’s military men and women.”
