AFA Member Returns to Space


This flag was presented to AFA at the Air Force Memorial by Shuttle Commander Lee Archambault, now in orbit on another mission. The flag shown here was flown on the June 8-22, 2007, mission of the space shuttle Atlantis. Space Shuttle pilot Col Lee Archambault presented flags to the Air Force Memorial and the Air Force Association that were flown aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis during STS-117. Colonel Archambault is a veteran combat pilot with over 4,250 flight hours in more than 30 different aircraft, including the F-111D, F-117, and F-16. STS-117 transported components to the International Space Station, carried Expedition 15/16 Flight Engineer Clayton C. Anderson to the station, and returned Expedition 15 Flight Engineer Sunita L. Williams to Earth.
