AFA Remembers Desert One

Arlington, VA – The Air Force Association (AFA) today remembers the heroic efforts of the Air Commandos and Marines of Desert One, who died in an effort to rescue their hostage countrymen from Iran.

Twenty-nine years after the 24 April 1980 start of that mission, AFA released the following statement in commemoration of their service and sacrifice:

“We remember today the bravery and dedication of the Air Commandos and Marines who died in the line of duty on Desert One. These Airmen and Marines answered the nation’s call and placed the lives of their countrymen ahead of their own. AFA honors their memory.”

“We must always be vigilant that our valiant service men and women are possessed of the best possible equipment, training, support and technology to allow them to fight and win for the cause of freedom.”
