AFA Applauds Award of Medal

Arlington, VA – “AFA applauds the award of the Medal of Honor to CMSgt Richard L. Etchberger,” said Mike Dunn, President and CEO. “CMSgt Etchberger displayed enormous courage and self sacrifice defending a radar station against North Vietnamese soldiers and saving the lives of fellow Americans. It is recognition well deserved.”

CMSgt. Richard L. Etchberger's three sons received the nation's highest military tribute, the Medal of Honor, on behalf of their dad from President Obama today at the White House.

Chief Etchberger was authorized to be awarded the medal following the signing of the 2009 defense policy bill. Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.) worked for four years to secure authorization for a posthumous MOH for Etchberger, a native of Bismarck, N.D.
