AFA’s 2011 Pitsenbarger Awards Aid CCAF Graduates

Arlington, VA – The Air Force Association today announced $88,000 in funds awarded to the 2011 Spring graduates of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) graduates for AFA’s Pitsenbarger Awards.

The award is named for William H. Pitsenbarger, an Airman First Class who gave his life in Vietnam saving others. For his heroism, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

AFA Pitsenbarger awards honor top Air Force enlisted personnel graduating from the CCAF who are pursuing a baccalaureate degree. Each of the recipients receives a special one-time $400 grant and a certificate of achievement. The award is based on distinguished activity encompassing leadership, teamwork, citizenship, community service, dedication, personal development and academic achievement, along with a Commander’s endorsement.

“These airmen have demonstrated great leadership and scholastic achievement to achieve this award,” said George Muellner, AFA Vice Chairman of the Board, Aerospace Education. “As encouraging education is one of our highest priorities, AFA is very pleased to award their efforts as they pursue their educational goals in addition to their service.”
