Embry-Riddle’s Prescott Arizona Campus Signs On as CyberPatriot Cyber Silver Sponsor

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Air Force Association announced today that Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus has joined CyberPatriot--The National High School Cyber Defense Competition as a Cyber Silver Sponsor.

CyberPatriot is AFA’s flagship youth program that educates, excites and inspires high school students to pursue education and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Established in 2008, CyberPatriot helps develop cyber security skills in today's youth who will become the nation’s future cyber defenders and cyber leaders. It combines online education and a competition structure that allows hands-on learning while competing virtually against their peers and introduces many to the idea of cyber security as a profession.

Since it was founded just 22 years after the Wright brothers' first flight, Embry-Riddle’s Prescott, Arizona campus and its graduates have built a strong record of achievement in every aspect of aviation and aerospace. They work to create a technologically enriched, student-centered environment that emphasizes learning through collaboration and teamwork, concern for ethical and responsible behavior and a focus on the development of the professional skills needed for participation in a global community.

“Together, we are working to find real solutions to our nation's technological obstacles that will lie ahead, which takes heavy investment in today's youth,” said Dr. Archie Dickey, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “This partnership illustrates a firm commitment to developing the skills necessary to make young men and women competitive in the professional world. We look forward to a dynamic relationship with the CyberPatriot program.”

This year, CyberPatriot had more than 1,200 teams registered representing all 50 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Europe and the Pacific, and Canada.

"We rely on sponsors like Embry-Riddle to grow our program as we seek to reach even more high school students throughout the nation to educate them on cyber security and as we draw them to educations and careers in cyber security and other science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields,” said Bernie Skoch, CyberPatriot Commissioner. “We are excited about this new sponsorship because we believe that the aerospace and defense community would benefit greatly from a broader understanding of the capabilities and security risks embedded in the cyber domain.”
