Splunk Joins CyberPatriot as Cyber Gold Sponsor

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Air Force Association (AFA) today announced that Splunk Inc., the leading software platform for real-time operational intelligence, has joined the team of sponsors for CyberPatriot –The National High School Cyber Defense Competition.

Splunk® software collects, indexes, monitors, analyzes and visualizes machine-generated big data coming from the websites, applications, servers, networks and mobile devices that power business. More than 4,800 enterprises, universities, government agencies and service providers in over 80 countries use Splunk Enterprise to gain operational intelligence. Many of those organizations rely on Splunk software, including the Splunk App for Enterprise Security and the Splunk App for PCI Compliance, to help protect their networks and data from known and unknown threats.

Splunk joins CyberPatriot as a Cyber Gold sponsor, providing invaluable knowledge and capability to the nation’s fastest-growing youth cyber challenge. As part of the partnership, Splunk will provide software and other support to the competition, giving CyberPatriot competitors access to industry-leading cyber security products.

“Splunk is focused specifically on the challenges and opportunities of helping organizations unlock the largely untapped value hidden within their machine data, and security is a vital aspect of our focus,” said Mark Seward, senior director of security and compliance, Splunk. “Ensuring cyber security and controlling access to sensitive information is a top concern for Splunk and its customers, so we are very pleased to support CyberPatriot as it works to raise awareness and understanding of cyber defense. CyberPatriot embraces technology as a tool for engaging young people and helping uncover a burgeoning professional discipline. We are excited to be part of something as important as shaping tomorrow’s workforce.”

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Splunk to the team,” said Bernie Skoch, CyberPatriot Commissioner. “Their vision for helping grow the next generation of cyber security experts America needs is a perfect addition to the family of supporters we already have.”

CyberPatriot is an exciting education initiative created to stimulate student interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Providing students hands-on learning about technology, CyberPatriot emphasizes teamwork and leadership, and exercises critical-thinking skills as teams learn how to defend and protect computer systems from cyber threats. This year’s competition began in early November 2012, with more than 1,000 teams across the country (and five in Canada) registered to participate.
