McKinney Honored by Air Force Association as Member of the Year

Arlington, VA, September 17, 1998--The Air Force Association presented its prestigious Member of the Year Award to Ivan L. McKinney, vice president for the South Central Region and former Ark-LA-Tex (LA) Chapter president. McKinney, a resident of Bossier City, Louisiana, accepted his award during AFA's National Convention and Aerospace Technology Exposition, held in Washington, D.C., September 14-16, 1998.

McKinney joined AFA in November 1965 and has served as a chapter president, state president, and national vice president. He has also served on national-level committees of AFA. Honored for his tireless dedication to the AFA, he has received numerous awards and gets high marks from fellow chapter members. Among the many awards he has received are two AFA Medals of Merit, the Exceptional Service Award, and a Presidential Citation.

During his term as Louisiana State AFA President, McKinney's emphasis on new member recruitment earned Louisiana the South Central Region's "State of the Year" award. South Central has also obtained more new AFA members than any other region for the second straight year, thanks largely to McKinney's persistence.

According to Louisiana State President Michael Cammarosano, "If you're around him long, you will see him put the arm on someone to join AFA. And he is usually successful!". His commitment to obtaining new business partnerships gained the Ark-LA-Tex Chapter the largest number of Community Partners in the nation (227), McKinney's stated goal for 1998. AFA's Community Partner Program is designed to create partnerships with local businesses in support of AFA's educational and outreach programs.

Born in Sophia, WV, McKinney graduated valedictorian of Sophia High School, class of 1947. He enlisted as a private in the Air Force in 1949 and retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1976. Employed as a stockbroker for the past 22 years, he's worked for such companies as E.F. Hutton, Shearson and Dean Whitter. He earned his bachelor's degree in History from Eastern Michigan University and holds a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma and a master's of Counseling from Louisiana Tech University. McKinney is also active in the Bossier Exchange Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Society of the Strategic Air Command, the Air War College Alumni Association, the Cotillion

Club, the USAF Navigator-Observer Association, and is a former chairman of the Shreveport-Bossier Military Affairs Council.

McKinney and his wife, the former Mary Mulrooney, of Corner Brook, Newfoundland, are the parents of six sons, four of whom have served or are now serving in the Air Force.
