Statement
The Air Force Association received the news of General
Fogleman's early retirement with great regret. His departure
is a loss to the Air Force and to the nation.
In his three years as Chief of Staff, General Fogleman
achieved much. Under his leadership, the force began to achieve
stability after a period of intense change. He launched a
comprehensive re-evaluation of future requirements and options.
This effort was the basis for two landmark reports-- "New
World Vistas," which explored the technological possibilities,
and "Air Force 2025," which examined a full range of
threats and missions that the future force might confront. This,
in turn, was instrumental in the development of "Global
Engagement," the Air Force's long-range plan for the 21st century.
It is our observation that General Fogleman is held in warm
regard by the men and women of the Air Force and he will be sorely
missed. AFA wishes the Foglemans all the best as they navigate new
horizons in retirement.
