Steed Honored by Air Force Association as Member of the Year

Arlington, VA, September 27, 1999-- The Air Force Association (AFA) presented its prestigious Member of the Year Award to Jack H. Steed of Warner Robins, GA. Steed accepted his award during AFA’s National Convention and Aerospace Technology Exposition, held in Washington, D.C., in September.

Steed served most recently as AFA’s Southeast Region vice president and was elected to AFA Board of Directors during the National Convention. Steed joined AFA in May 1975 and has served in several state and chapter positions, including chapter president, state president, state vice president, vice president of veterans affairs and vice president of government relations. He has also served on national-level committees of AFA.

Honored for his tireless dedication to AFA, Steed has received several awards since joining the association. In 1976, he was awarded the AFA Medal of Merit. Other awards soon followed, including an AFA Special Citation (1989), Exceptional Service Award (1990), and the Presidential Citation (1991 and 1998).

Steed’s excellent organizational and administrative skills resulted in the re-activation of several chapters within the Southeast Region. At the time Steed became region vice president, eleven area chapters were considered inactive, and several others were marginally functioning. His leadership skills were central to the quick transformation of the region’s failing chapters to full operational status. He was also a key player in the reorganization and restructuring of the Southeast Region.

Born in High Point, NC, Steed graduated from High Point High School. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Nebraska, earning his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1949 and served for thirty-three years. Steed is also active in the Warner Robins (GA) Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Central Georgia and the American Heart Association. He also served as Bank South's Vice President for Marketing for 14 years and currently serves on the Bank of America's (formerly Nations Bank) Board of Directors for Middle Georgia. Currently, he is employed as a Senior Consultant for Nichols, Cauley & Associates in Georgia. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have three children.
