AIR FORCE CHIEF OF STAFF SPEAKS OUT ON READINESS

Washington, D.C., September 12, 2000 -- Air Force Chief of Staff General Michael E. Ryan told attendees at the Air Force Association (AFA) National Convention today that funding for readiness has improved but at the expense of stretched modernization programs and under funding of Air Force infrastructure.

Ryan spoke during an AFA luncheon in his honor at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. Ryan said "Air Force people are incredible men and women engaged in the full spectrum of missions in defense of America."

In a wide ranging address before AFA delegates, guests and convention attendees, Ryan thanked the audience and requested their continued support to improve the quality of life that those who serve in the military deserve.

"The Air Force is on the verge of setting a new record low for the number of aircraft accidents," Ryan said. With Aerospace Forces more and more in demand, this is a particularly noteworthy accomplishment. Ryan announced that the Air Force would meet its recruiting goal this year and without lowering standards.

The Air Force Association is comprised of 150,000 members nation-wide. Its annual national convention and aerospace technology exposition is a key forum for education and the advocacy of a strong Air Force and National Defense.
