| Chapter #116 Teacher of the Year

The Claude Farinha Gold Rush Chapter #116 selected Marilou Edwards as Teacher of the Year because of her outstanding performance in science instruction. Edwards has taught at Lincoln High School for the past nine years. She presently teaches Physics, Chemistry and Advanced Placement (AP) Physics and Biology. She is the Science Co-Chairperson solely responsible for introducing Physics, AP Physics and AP Agriculture Chemistry and Biology curriculum at Lincoln High. The scores for her science students have increased tremendously due to her teaching, leadership and untiring efforts. Ms Edwards also runs a science exposition each year for the high school students. More than 400 local elementary students and many high school students come to see over 40 exhibits and projects. Her principal, Dave Butler, sums up her performance best: “Ms Edwards is the best science instructor I have ever worked with in my 32 years of education.”
Edwards receives $500 from Chapter 116 as 2009 Teacher of the Year and she will also compete for the 2009 California State Air Force Association Education Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year.
