Tarheel Chapter Supports AFJROTC Drill Meet

On March 20, Tarheel Chapter 207 played an integral part in the Second Capital City Invitational Drill Competition hosted by Sanderson High School AFJROTC Unit NC-939. The competition location was in Raleigh, North Carolina at the high school.

On the morning of the event at the commencement ceremony, Colonel Robert Penny recognized AFA support and funding. Lou Emond, Tarheel Chapter member, was welcomed and introduced. He spoke about AFA and told the audience where they could find the AFA display table. Tarheel members attending were Chapter President Ray Benson, Lou Emond, Joyce Feuerstein and Lew Feuerstein.

Tarheel Chapter President Ray Benson displayed flight plans he collected from his days as a pilot. Cadets enjoyed looking them over. The plans prompted intense discussions about opportunities in the U. S. Air Force. These conversations were a lead in to the recent CyberPatriot event. Cadets were impressed that the North Carolina Civil Air Patrol unit from Burlington took second place in the National competition.

At the restaurant on the night of the event, banners from AFA were prominently displayed in front of the restaurant. Greeters from the Tarheel Chapter were stationed outside and in the foyer of the restaurant to encourage diners to mention their support for the event. AFA Chapter members eagerly attended the Spirit night event. Membership forms were distributed and those interested in the chapter newsletter provided names and contact information.

The Tarheel Chapter is totally committed to area ROTC and JROTC units. Each unit is aware that the chapter is willing to assist in any capacity, including annual awards ceremonies. Member Lew Feuerstein is well known in the chapter area for his dedication to the units.
