Teleconference Experiment is A Great Success!
Sandy Schlitt, Vice Chairman of Board, Aerospace Education, and Buck Buckwalter, AFA Executive Vice President, held the first National AFA Education Teleconference on September 8th 2009. Objectives were to open up a new line of Education communications to the AFA Field, answer any education questions that might arise, and determine if a National teleconference approach to communications and education linkages was useful. Forty AFA Field Education officers and supporters participated on-line. Buckwalter presented a thorough update on CyberPatriot and answered a number of questions. Other issues raised and discussed included continuing current Pitsenbarger awards in light of new GI Bill education support, Visions of Exploration successes, challenges, and attempts to obtain new sources of funding to expand the program. One concern expressed was that Visions lessons were not structured enough, requiring too much individual local adjustment by teachers. USA Today responded with a revised set of more structured Visions lessons. Feedback from teleconference attendees afterward strongly endorsed continuing this forum and offered constructive suggestions for improvement (audio quality and earlier agendas). Stay tuned for the next National AFA Education Teleconference.
