Civil Air Patrol Award to Past President of D.W. Steele Chapter

Civil Air Patrol Captain Toni Ali, Commander of the Arlington Composite Squadron, announced that George "Willie" DeFilippi, Jr. of the D.W. Steele Chapter is this year's recipient of the Frank G. Brewer – Civil Air Patrol Memorial Aerospace Award for the Middle East Region of the Civil Air Patrol.

Established in 1959, the Brewer awards serve as a memorial to Frank G. Brewer, Sr. and his lifelong interest in aviation, youth, and education. Recognition is given to individuals and organizations that make outstanding contributions to the advancement of youth in aerospace activities. Nominees are evaluated on CAP program support, significance of accomplishment, community involvement, and support of all facets of the aerospace education mission. This award is presented annually in four categories at both the regional and national level.

In addition to his work as Vice President of Aerospace Education with the D.W. Steele Chapter, DeFilippi has been an advocate of Aerospace Education in the Commonwealth of Virginia and has cultivated a close and long-standing relationship between and among the Air Force Association, the Arlington County School District, the aerospace community in Northern Virginia, and the Civil Air Patrol. He has vigorously promoted the D.W. Steele Chapter’s efforts to fulfill the Aerospace Education missions of not only the Air Force Association, but also the Civil Air Patrol.
