AFA Promotes Aerospace Education through Junior ROTC Grants
The grants of $250 each are provided to JROTC instructors for varied uses that promote any
Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) activity or materials, as the building blocks of
aerospace education and future development. The grants are often used for group activities such
as field trips to aerospace museums. In other instances, the grants fund textbooks and classroom
materials that assist the teacher in making these foundational subjects interesting and
challenging.
AFA provides these grants twice yearly. AFA strongly advocates education in these crucial subject
areas to develop the future leaders and skill sets of the 21st Century. Expertise in these
crucial fields is a requirement to sustain the pace of U.S. aerospace development and economic
vitality.
“We appreciate the nation’s JROTC instructors and what they mean to the development of aerospace
leaders of the future,” said S. Sanford Schlitt, Vice Chairman of the Board, Aerospace Education.
“We know these instructors are doing a great job, and we are pleased to provide a little extra
encouragement with this grant.”
“Our nation’s future economic vitality and national defense expertise starts with early
development in classrooms and great programs like JROTC,” said Mike Dunn, President of AFA.
“Strengthening aerospace education will continue to be a part of our daily and long term mission
at AFA.”
