AFA Scholarships and Grants for 2009

Pitsenbarger Awards
Note Change for 2009: the award amount has been set at $400 per recipient for 2009 (it used to be
$500). Also, if you have a copy of the old allocation table, discard it. Base Education Offices are to
contact Lynette Cross for information on how many awards they are to receive.
AFA Pitsenbarger Awards provide a one-time grant of $400 to selected top active duty, Guard and Reserve
USAF enlisted personnel graduating from the Community College of the Air Force who plan to pursue a
baccalaureate degree. The grants coincide with the CCAF graduation ceremonies held each spring and fall.
Lt Col Romeo and Josephine Bass Ferretti Scholarship
This scholarship is made possible by a bequest from the estate of Lt Col Romeo and Josephine Bass
Ferretti and was established for minor dependents of Air Force active duty, Reserve or Air National
Guard enlisted airmen pursuing an undergraduate degree in the area of science, technology, engineering
or math. The recipients will be selected based upon high academic standards, good character and
financial need.
Jodi Callahan Memorial Scholarship
The Jodi Callahan Memorial Graduate Scholarship provides financial assistance and recognition to an
active duty Air Force full time Guard or Reserve (officer or enlisted) person who is pursuing a Master’s
degree in a non-technical field.
AFROTC Scholarship
This scholarship program was created by the Air Force Association in partnership with the First Command
Educational Foundation to provide two scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each to highly qualified
AFROTC cadets coming into their junior or senior year in the fall of 2009 and committed to a course of
study in science, technology, engineering or math. Contact person for this program is Ann Sagle at

Air Force Excellence Scholarship
This scholarship program was created by the Air Force Association in partnership with the First Command
Educational Foundation to provide five scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each to students who have
achieved academic excellence and contributed to their community in a significant way. Contact person

Spouse Scholarship
The Air Force Association Spouse Scholarship program is designed to
encourage Air Force spouses worldwide to pursue associate/bachelor undergraduate or graduate/postgraduate
degrees.
AFA/Grantham University Online Degree Scholarship
This program is designed to encourage active duty dependents and AFA members and their dependents to
continue their education, in spite of busy, demanding schedules. Grantham has modeled its online
programs so they can be completed from anywhere Internet access is available. This scholarship can be
used for many different types of degrees.
