Filing the 990-N “e-postcard”
Note: this article is a reprint from last month’s Newsline, but there are still over half of AFA’s States/Chapters who have not reported
status.
For the past two years, we’ve had periodic articles in Newsline talking about the 990-N e-postcard requirement, but also discussing the
problems IRS was having with the system. At the same time, the group exemption issue was undecided, and that issue needed to be resolved
first. With the group exemption resolved, ALL States and Chapters whose average annual gross receipts are less than $25,000 must file their
990-N now (whether you filed it in 2007 and 2008 or not).
The good news is that, as long as the system recognizes your Employer Identification Number (EIN), the whole process takes about 10-15
minutes.
There is additional information about 990-N filing (and other 501(c)(3) tax matters) on a new section of the “Field Resources” page of our
website at http://www.afa.org/members/field.asp. All Region, State, and Chapter Presidents should review the information posted there and
file the 990-N if the State or Chapter has not already done so.
