2011 Convention Report

The 2011 AFA National Convention was a great success and a good time for over 200 AFA members who gathered together to play a pivotal role in shaping our Association. In addition to the election of National Officers and Directors (list follows), the delegates reviewed the 2012 Statement of Policy and Top Issues and were also briefed on the AFA Strategic Plan for 2011-2012, both of which were approved by the Board of Directors. Additional delegate business included affirming the 2012-2014 Strategic Plan as approved by the Board of Directors, approving the Board recommendation to disapprove Field Resolutions 1-3, a briefing on a report of a Board-approved change to the OPM concerning the dues review process, and rejection of a Board-approved change to the Constitution concerning the Search and Nomination process.

In addition to being the primary forum for conducting official AFA business, the National Convention offers exciting opportunities for members and guests to come together for networking, training, Congressional engagement, and social activities. After a great deal of hard work by AFA Field Leaders, Convention Committee members and staff, there were many new initiatives offered this year to make our Convention better for all. These initiatives included the AFA Celebration Dinner Cruise aboard the Spirit of Washington, a new schedule of activities for spouses and guests organized by Patricia Schlitt, additional leadership development training, a Pentagon 9/11 Memorial tour, and much more.
