Aerospace Education Council Update: July 2023

July 20, 2023

I have family in town. Our baby, her husband, and two of our granddaughters have made their annual return to Colorado. Between birthdays and holidays, this is the time for us to reconnect; to renew ties; to just catch up IRL.

For AFA, it’s time to prepare to do the same thing. The AFA National Convention in September, followed by another, first-class Air, Space & Cyber Conference, is our chance to reconnect with fellow volunteers and staff, create new ties and renew old ones, and share the lessons learned we all need to improve mission successes. For both events, the National Staff is making great strides to ensure they are as successful as they have been in the past.

In the meantime, our STEM programs have summer camps in full swing, preparing students and educators for the coming academic year and the competitions that do so much to movtivate and inspire the next generation. Our national level councils and committees work to complete the year’s activities, including the selection of our National Teacher of the Year for 2023-24.  In their “spare time,” the National Staff is working diligently to prepare a budget for 2024.  While the lazy days of summer offer a great opportunity to relax and recreate, there is still work to be done.

Take some time, relax and rejuvenate, then go forth and do good things!

Stephen K. Gourley
Vice Chairman of the Board, Education
