AFA Chapter Presents CAP Cadet Squadron Award
May 31, 2024
Jim Hannam, AFA Board Emeritus and D.W. Steele, Sr. Memorial Chapter representative, presented the 2024 AFA Aerospace Education award for Outstanding Civil Air Patrol Squadron Cadet to C/2d Lt. Lorenzo Felline of the Burke Composite Squadron.
Burke Composite Squadron commander, Maj. Julie Demyanovich, was pleased to have Hannam visit the squadron and make the award presentation. The Squadron is very involved in both of AFA’s main youth STEM programs, CyberPatriot and StellarXplorers.
Felline went above and beyond expectations during 2023, serving a term as the Bravo Flight Commander and a term as the Emergency Services Cadet Officer in Charge at Burke Composite Squadron. He also served as a first sergeant at the Virginia Wing Summer Encampment. In his positions, Felline demonstrated expert organizational skills, coordinating multiple emergency services exercises for more than 20 members; mentored other cadets in leadership aspects of the cadet program; served as emergency services skills evaluator for Ground Team Member 3 qualifications; and served as an outstanding role model for cadets, imbuing the core values on junior members both in Burke Composite Squadron and at Virginia Wing Summer Encampment.
“He achieved the Mitchell Award (Award Number 757743) in November 2023, and began serving as Cadet Commander of Burke Composite Squadron in December 2023. He continues to serve today,” said Demyanovich.
Congratulations to Felline on his top-notch work within his squadron and his wing, as well as his recognition as the 2024 AFA Award Recipient of the CAP Outstanding Squadron Cadet Award.
AFA Chapter representatives across the nation make presentations for this AFA award for outstanding CAP squadron cadets throughout the year.
