AFA Embraces Space Force in New Mission Statement

The Air Force Association announced today it has revamped its Mission Statement to firmly establish its commitment and support to both the U.S. Air Force and the new U.S. Space Force.

“Just a few months ago, Congress and the President created this new Space Force, bringing it forth out of the Air Force, just as the Air Force was raised up out of the Army 73 years before,” said AFA Chairman CMSAF (Ret.) Gerald Murray. “Now, as thousands of Airmen begin the process of transferring into the Space Force, we are making clear that AFA fully embraces every one of the 15,000 or more professionals who will eventually make up this great Space Force. Whether they come from the Air Force, the Army, Navy, or elsewhere, we welcome them with open arms and a steadfast commitment to fight and advocate for their every need.”

The Air Force Association was formed in 1946 to advocate for and raise awareness of Air Power, a strong national defense, and the concerns of Airmen and their families. With the creation of the Space Force, AFA’s new Mission Statement now declares:

Our mission is to promote dominant U.S. Air and Space Forces as the foundation of a strong National Defense; to honor and support our Airmen, Space Force Professionals, and their Families; and to remember and respect our enduring Heritage.

To accomplish this, we:

  • EDUCATE the public on the critical need for unrivaled aerospace power and a technically superior workforce to ensure national security

  • ADVOCATE for aerospace power, and promote aerospace and STEM education and professional development

  • SUPPORT readiness for the Total Air and Space Forces, including Active Duty, National Guard, Reserve, civilians, families and members of the Civil Air Patrol

“Our incredible Space Force grew up in the warm embrace of our U.S. Air Force,” said AFA President Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Bruce “Orville” Wright. “Air and Space power combined are America’s decisive edge in any conflict. It’s two services, but one fight, and our AFA will always be fully committed and dedicated to U.S. dominance in air, space, and cyberspace. Taking care of Airmen, Space Professionals, and also their families is a foundational element of what this association stands for.”
