Space Force JRTOC cadets from Arlington, Va., experienced a unique opportunity during AFA’s Air, Space & Cyber Conference in September. AFA’s Steele Chapter arranged for eight cadets to participate in a hands-on event, where they had the chance to fly simulators, explore cutting-edge aviation and space technology, and meet Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force John Bentivegna.
“We’ve built a fantastic partnership with the JROTC unit over the years, and we always look forward to hosting them at our Chapter activities. We are proud of these future leaders,” said Steele Chapter President Lloyd Swede.
This partnership extends beyond the conference. The JROTC unit’s color guard team presented the national colors at the Virginia Commonwealth EXCOM meeting on October 5, hosted by the chapter. Annually, the color guard team participates in numerous local events, offering cadets valuable leadership opportunities.
The JROTC unit at the Arlington Career Center currently has 82 cadets who are learning essential life skills, discipline, and teamwork that will benefit them throughout their lives. It is one of 10 Space Force JROTC units in the U.S.
“We sincerely appreciate everything the Steele Chapter has done to support us. We have a great partnership and look forward to working together in the future,” said retired colonel Scott Dierlam, JROTC instructor.
