AFA Supports West Virginia State AFJROTC Drill Meet
March 26, 2024
A West Virginia Spring snowstorm had begun to wane and sunshine was beginning to peek out on this chilly February 24 day. Inside, AFJROTC Drill cadet teams—about 100 cadets from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia—were fiercely competing in the 28th Annual West Virginia Drill Meet at Parkersburg South High School. The WV-781st AFJROTC squadron, led by Lt. Col. Alex Cantu, USAF (Ret.), a nine-year AFJROTC Senior Instructor, hosted the meet.
AFA’s Chuck Yeager Chapter, led by President Peter Jones and Treasurer Jim Hannam, proudly provided support and trophies to the winning teams. The teams competed in Inspection, Color Guard, and both armed and unarmed Drill events. The event culminated in a popular, all-hands “Knockout Round.” The winning cadet drill team, PA-931 AFJROTC, Cathedral Preparatory High School, took a four plus hour bus trip from Erie, PA to compete. The host unit, WV-781 AFJROTC won the WV Trophy.
