AFA Teacher of the Year Helps Fight COVID Using 3D Printer

Our 2015 AFA National Teacher of the Year Mark Westlake of St. Thomas Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota, is using 3D printers in the school’s Innovation Center to make face shields for healthcare professionals. His efforts were highlighted by the local ABC affiliate. Since he can only produce about 20 shields a day, he is using social media and crowdsourcing efforts to enlist others to help with demand. Groups from Minneapolis, Boston, Phoenix, Hawaii and elsewhere are joining forces, searching for anyone with a 3D printer.

Mike Vargas of Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Arizona, our 2019 National Teacher of the Year, is one of those who heeded the call. He received the .stl files and is assisting in the efforts.

If you can help, please contact Westlake on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/mark.r.westlake or on Twitter at @TheMarkWestlake.
