February 29, 2024   |   By Patrick Nugent

AFA’s Seidel Chapter in Dallas, Texas, was renamed the Sam Johnson Chapter during a February 29 ceremony at the Gleneagles Country Club in Plano, Texas.

The new name pays tribute to Col. Sam Johnson, a distinguished Air Force veteran and public servant who passed away in 2020. Johnson spent 29 years in uniform, including time as a Korean and Vietnam War veteran. He survived seven years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Additionally, his extensive tenure of 26 years in Congress underscores his commitment to public service even after his military career. His dedication to his country is truly commendable.

Johnson’s daughter, Beverly Briney, attended the renaming ceremony. Chapter President Ric Hamer presented her with the Chapter’s first challenge coin to thank her family for their contributions to the community. The ceremony not only honored Johnson’s remarkable legacy, but it also served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans and their families in service to their country.
