Hurricane Michael Affects Tyndall AFA Chapter and Air Force Base
Arlington, Va. – On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, Hurricane Michael made landfall in the Florida Panhandle. The third strongest hurricane to ever hit the United States caused catastrophic damage to Tyndall Air Force Base infrastructure, which will have a lasting impact on USAF operations. Nearly all base housing was damaged and more than 300 members of the Air Force Association (AFA) Tyndall Chapter were affected by the Category 4 storm.
Tyndall Air Force Base non-essential functions remain closed unless stated otherwise by the wing commander. Tyndall Air Force Base leaders do not yet have an estimate of when the base will reopen but are working to develop a short-term plan for our Airmen. AFA is committed to ensuring the safety of our Airmen. You can help by donating to AFA’s Tyndall Chapter relief fund: https://www.paypal.me/tyndallafa.
AFA will keep our Air Force family stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base in our thoughts as we will continue to monitor the relief efforts to see how we can help.
The Air Force Association is a non-profit, independent, professional military and aerospace education association. Our mission is to promote a dominant United States Air Force and a strong national defense, and to honor Airmen and our Air Force heritage.
