Steele Chapter Brings Halloween Fun to Bolling with F2 Grant

AFA’s D.W. Steele Sr. Chapter conjured up some Halloween magic in October by partnering with the 11th Civil Engineer Squadron and AFA’s United Forces & Families (F2) to bring Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C., its first-ever on-base haunted house.
Under the leadership of Steele Chapter President Lloyd Swede, AFA volunteers welcomed hundreds of little ghosts, goblins, and other spooky creatures each weekend in October. The event was made possible through a quality-of-life grant from AFA’s F2 program, which helps AFA Chapters promote the F2 mission of uniting forces and families through quality-of-life initiatives like this one.
In addition to creating spooky fun, the haunted house also served as a fundraiser. Proceeds from the event will help support morale-boosting events throughout the year for the Civil Engineer squadron.
“This was a win for everyone involved,” said Swede. “The Bolling community enjoyed a fun and safe Halloween experience, while the Civil Engineer Squadron earned vital funds for future on-base activities. Our chapter also benefited by demonstrating our unwavering support for the Airmen, Guardians, and their Families who call this area home.”
Swede emphasized that supporting the haunted house was a fantastic way for the chapter to raise awareness and strengthen ties within the military community.
“We love that the Steele Chapter is embracing Bolling’s first-ever haunted house for all the Airmen, Guardians, and Families in the local area,” said Christine Brown, AFA’s Senior Manager for Community Outreach. “We’re incredibly grateful for the support the chapter provides.”
