What AFA Chapters Need to Know about the Teacher of the Year Program

October 26, 2023

AFA’s Thompson/Mallett Teacher of the Year (TOY) program, presented by Rolls Royce, is a great way to recognize local classroom teachers at the chapter level for their hard work getting K-12 students excited about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and preparing them to contribute to tomorrow’s technologies. We encourage chapters to recognize and reward outstanding teachers who are furthering excellence in making “coming to class an adventure.”

The AFA Chapter TOY nomination form and guidelines are available here.

The official program (wherein the AFA national office accepts and processes TOY nominations for chapter and state submissions) runs Jan. 1 through April 30, though chapters may recognize their teachers when it works best for the chapter and the teacher’s school. TOY award presentations may happen at any time during the year. When posting on social media, we encourage chapters to tag us on Facebook so the posts can be shared.

For a recent article of one such presentation, read how Andrew Slagle, engineering and math teacher at North Pole High School, received the AFA Fairbanks Midnight Sun Chapter 362 TOY Award on Oct. 10.
