AFA Cheers New Air Force Initiative Supporting Military Families
August 23, 2024
ARLINGTON, Va.— AFA applauds the new efforts outlined by Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin ensuring that Air Force Families are fully supported as the service adapts to new operating concepts in an era of great power competition.
“In order to meet the moment in this time of consequence, we need to ensure that families and communities connected to the Air Force are as well prepared as our service members for the possible challenges that lay ahead,” Allvin wrote in an Aug. 16 memo to Airmen, Families, and community partners.
AFA, a national non-profit dedicated to advancing air and space power and supporting Airmen, Guardians, and their Families, cheered the new initiative.
“Without ready families, you won’t have ready Airmen and Guardians,” said AFA President & CEO Lt. Gen. Burt Field, USAF (Ret.) “We know that family readiness and mission readiness are directly linked. That’s why we are so committed to helping the Department of the Air Force ensure Airmen, Guardians, and their families have the quality of life they deserve and are well-supported at home, whether in peace or wartime.”
Allvin noted three pillars to ensure readiness: Understanding the mission, connecting to the community, and building Family resilience for times of crisis.
“Throughout my life, as an Air Force kid and then career Airman, I’ve seen first-hand how strong, resilient families support and develop strong, resilient Airmen,” Field added.
AFA’s United Forces & Families initiative is a crucial part of the Association’s support. Bringing together Airmen, Guardians, and their Families, our United Forces & Families program creates actionable recommendations to improve Family readiness and quality of life, providing grants to local programs, public awareness programming, and opening up free admission to AFA conferences for Air Force & Space Force spouses.
AFA’s Air, Space & Cyber Conference will feature four United Forces & Families sessions in September, highlighting Guardians, Airmen, spouses, and policy makers on the front lines of these issues. These sessions will delve into childcare, family readiness in an era of great power competition, Guardian culture, and more. Top Air Force and Space Force leaders also will share their own stories in a special Senior Leadership Perspective session. See the full agenda.
