AFA Sponsors Support for Air Force Wounded Warriors at Air Force Trials

AFA, Semper Fi Fund, and Deloitte Champion Support for Air Force Wounded Warriors at Air Force Trials

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Air Force Association (AFA), Semper Fi Fund, and Deloitte are proud to continue their support of more than 200 Air Force wounded warriors and caregivers as they compete in the Air Force Warrior Games Trials at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., from February 26 to March 9, 2019.

“The strength of our Air Force rests with the amazing men and women who make up our Air Force family. Supporting our wounded Airmen at events like the Trials is not only the right thing to do, it’s an honor,” said Kari Voliva, AFA Vice President of Member and Field Relations. “Our Wounded Airman Program is AFA’s greatest example of a large network of Airmen for Life coming together to take care of our own.”

AFA, Semper Fi Fund, and Deloitte share a commitment to supporting the Air Force Wounded Warrior program and will be combining support efforts at the 2019 Air Force Trials. AFA and Deloitte will team up for the fourth consecutive year with Semper Fi Fund matching support for the second year in a row. Together, the three organizations will support our Airmen during practices, competitions, caregiver events, and closing ceremonies. AFA’s Wounded Airman Program is proud to provide 25 Airman for Life travel grants to unfunded veteran warriors and their caregivers to compete for their spot on the Air Force’s Warrior Games team.

“As an organization committed to the health and success of our country’s veterans, we are proud to collaborate with AFA and Semper Fi Fund to support the Air Force and its families,” said Mark Nace, Principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP. “We stand strong with the athletes who compete each year in the Trials as they and their families demonstrate the resiliency of the human spirit and the power of sport in a person’s recovery from wound, injury, or illness.”

The Air Force Trials are part of the Air Force’s Warrior CARE events, which feature Caregiver Support, Adaptive and Rehabilitative Sports, Recovering Airman Mentorship and Employment and Career Readiness for wounded, ill, or injured service members. The Air Force Wounded Warrior team will be selected at the Trials and go on to compete at the Department of Defense Warrior Games held at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla. in July 2019.

“The Semper Fi Fund is thrilled to be involved with the Air Force Trials for a third year, and proud to be standing alongside Deloitte and AFA,” says Karen Guenther, Founder, President and CEO of the Semper Fi Fund. “We have been proud supporters of Airmen wounded in combat or training accidents since 2012 with our program America’s Fund, whether at the bedside or as they transition back to their communities. Our motto for our sports programs has always been ‘Recovery Through Sport,’ and we feel the trials and warrior games are critically important in fostering this same spirit of recovery and hope for so many of our warriors, their families, and our communities.”

The Air Force Association’s Wounded Airman Program, established in 2013, is a non-profit support program in partnership with the Air Force Wounded Warrior (AFW2) program to provide much-needed support to wounded Airmen and their caregivers.
