Building upon the great work of Mrs. Sharene Brown’s Five & Thrive initiative, AFA is investing an initial $50,000 in quality of life initiatives at the installation level with programs directly benefiting our Airmen, Guardians, and their families. We’re excited to execute this pilot program with great enthusiasm and flexibility to help us identify and build even bigger programming.

F2 Field Grants

Applications for 2023 Field Grants Are Open!

AFA Chapters may apply for grants of up to $1,000 to execute programming supporting Quality of Life initiatives for DAF families. $500 will be awarded initially and up to an additional $500 will be provided on a matching basis. Chapters must provide an after-action report which will be used by staff to publicize our mission work in the Field.

Approved F2 grants will be provided on a rolling basis while funding is available. Chapters may submit a request through the link above. Successful grant applications must demonstrate how an initiative will directly support Quality of Life improvements for our Airmen, Guardians and their families. As chapters are exploring support options, the Five & Thrive Focus Areas – Childcare, Education, Healthcare, Housing and Spouse Employment – should be used as a brainstorming roadmap. However, we encourage all chapters to think creatively in ways they can improve quality of life for Airmen, Guardians, and their families including issues like food insecurity, morale and professional development.

Grant requests will be evaluated by a subcommittee of the F2 Task Force. Recommendations for both grant approval and program support/execution will be provided to AFA’s VP for Member & Field Relations. Notification to chapters will occur no later than 30 days after submission.

Upon completion of the grant, AFA chapters will submit an after-action report which includes an event summary, support financials (both within the grant and additional local funding to show AFA’s full support), pictures and any lessons learned – to include best practices for program execution. This information will be used by staff to highlight AFA’s initiatives to improve Quality of Life for our Airmen, Guardians, and their Families, to summarize the levels of support AFA provides DAF families at all levels, and to highlight successful quality of life initiatives for use at other installations.

F2 Focus Grants

AFA's second type of F2 grants are focus grants. A select group of installations will be selected by the F2 Task Force to execute an AFA Quality of Life initiative. Expenses for these programs will be paid directly by AFA National. There will be no more than five (5) Focus Grants awarded in 2023.
