AFA’s Government Shutdown Response

We are approaching a full month since the government shut down on October 1. To some Americans, this might not mean much. But to our Airmen, Guardians, civilians, and their families, it’s quickly becoming a crisis.

No funding for federal employees means reduced or no paychecks for some—and potentially for all. So far, Active-duty military have been paid, but that is not guaranteed, and the time could come where they won’t be paid.

Only restoring federal funding can solve this problem. But there is still action you can take.

✎ WRITE YOUR REPRESENTATIVE

The Air & Space Forces Association wrote a letter that was signed by six other military associations and sent to Capitol Hill, urging lawmakers to restore funding to the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs and to restore government operations in full.

Use our online tool to automatically recreate our letter, address it to your local representatives, and complete it with your information. Print your letter and deliver it in person to their office.

The billions of dollars needed to fully pay our servicemembers’ salaries is far beyond what can be raised through charitable giving. But you can still help AFA make a difference.

AFA has $100,000 earmarked for emergency assistance grants and support for impacted Airmen, Guardians, and their Families during the 2025 government shutdown. With your help, we can broaden that impact.

Every donation will go directly to supporting our United Forces & Families (F2) relief efforts.

AFA Chapters

As AFA HQ works to raise extra funds for this emergency initiative, Chapters are encouraged to apply for grants so they can provide field relief to Airmen, Guardians, and their Families.

Air Force Wounded Warrior Program

Our Wounded Warriors are feeling the consequences of ceased government program funding, too. AFW2 case managers are encouraged to apply for an AFA Emergency Assistance grant on behalf of wounded Airmen, Guardians, and Caregivers.

To apply, contact AFA at afawap@afa.org.
