AFA National Convention | Virtual Attendance
Is there a registration fee to attend the 2025 National Convention virtually?
Yes. The registration fees are $20 for virtual attendance and $195 for in-person attendance.
When I register virtually, how will I receive my credentials to participate?
Delegate materials for virtual participants will be sent out no later than September 5.
Will virtual attendees be able to fully participate in the Convention business sessions?
Yes. Virtual delegates will have access to Convention sessions, and most importantly- full voting privileges, just like those attending in person.
Will there be opportunities to network or participate in the Convention virtually?
Virtual attendees will only be able to participate in the Business Sessions of the National Convention and can engage in discussions and ask questions during the Convention Business Sessions. Other parts of the Convention (workshops, Field Awards Dinner, etc.) will not be available to virtual attendees.
What governance amendments are included on the 2025 election ballot?
Should there be any Board actions requiring Convention approval will also be on the ballot.
How will I vote on the Bylaw amendments?
Voting on bylaw amendments will take place using the same secure, electronic platform as Board elections (ElectionBuddy). Each amendment will appear as a separate question on your ballot. You may vote “Yes” (to approve), “No” (to reject), or abstain.
Can governance issues be introduced or raised live from the floor during the Convention?
Yes. In accordance with AFA parliamentary procedure, motions may be introduced from the floor during designated business sessions. These items may include resolutions, rule changes, or other matters brought forth by delegates.
How will live floor votes work for both in-person and virtual attendees?
Any governance item introduced during the Convention will be handled as follows:
- In-Person Delegates will vote using a designated method via electronic polling or voice vote
- Virtual Delegates will vote via Zoom’s built-in polling feature. Zoom polls will be open only to credentialed delegates and will mirror the in-person question wording.
How will credentialing for live votes work on Zoom?
Only credentialed delegates logged in with their verified Zoom name/email will be permitted to vote. AFA staff will manage a secure delegate-only Zoom room or use webinar registration settings to limit polling to authorized voters.
Can I ask questions or speak in debate if I’m attending virtually?
Yes. Delegates attending via Zoom will be able to participate in debate by using the “Raise Hand” feature. The staff moderator will recognize speakers in order, and time limits will apply equally to both in-person and virtual participants.
What if I’m attending virtually and get disconnected during a live vote?
If technical difficulties occur, please rejoin the Zoom session immediately. Staff will monitor disruptions and allow time for reconnection if feasible, but votes will proceed within the designated window to maintain parliamentary order. If you cannot rejoin, please contact elections@afa.org or call (whoever is overseeing).
Will governance motions raised from the floor appear in my ElectionBuddy ballot?
No. Only pre-scheduled governance amendments will appear on your official ElectionBuddy ballot. Any additional governance items introduced during the Convention will be voted on in real time using Zoom polling and/or in-person mechanisms.
