AFA’s Government Shutdown Response
AFA commends lawmakers for ending the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. All Americans can rejoice that Airmen and Guardians, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and defense civilians can get back to the business of ensuring our National Security without worry about when their next paycheck will arrive.
Still, the solution reached this week is temporary, yet another Continuing Resolution that fails to deliver a full spending bill for the Department of War and most other government agencies. It is likewise imperative that the United States should never again use our uniformed service members and their civilian counterparts as bargaining chips in high stakes political standoffs.
Thank you to all AFA members and advocates who spoke to their representatives and Senators, contributed to our shutdown relief fund, and supported our service members and civilians. Most of all, thank you to all military members and civilian employees who continued serving in lieu of federal funding.
AFA Chapters
Chapters are still encouraged to apply for grants so they can provide field relief to Airmen, Guardians, and their Families who are facing lingering consequences of the shutdown.
Air Force Wounded Warrior Program
Our Wounded Warriors are feeling the consequences of ceased government program funding, too. AFW2 case managers are encouraged to apply for an AFA Emergency Assistance grant on behalf of wounded Airmen, Guardians, and Caregivers.
To apply, contact AFA at afawap@afa.org.
